Student María Suárez-Nieto wins SAA Outstanding Achievement Award

Human rights minor and Stanford senior María Suárez-Nieto has been awarded the Stanford Alumni Association Outstanding Achievement Award. A first-generation student from Colombia, María has assumed leadership and volunteer roles to help underserved and underrepresented groups. She has served as a mentor and role model to other first-generation and immigrant pre-med students and launched the Student Immigrant Empowerment Project at Stanford to create a welcoming, safe space for immigrant and undocumented students and applicants. María was profiled on our Center's social media pages; read her profile here. In addition to her minor in human rights, she is majoring in biology and minoring in data science.

Created in 2011, the Outstanding Achievement Award is given to three top Stanford seniors have made significant contributions to the campus community with undergraduate activities that demonstrate potential for continued service to the university and the alumni community. Faculty and staff nominate students for this award.
