Grad student César Arévalo wins Tom Ford Philanthropy Fellowship

Stanford grad student César Arévalo has been awarded the Tom Ford Fellowship in Philanthropy for 2021-22. The Ford Fellowship provides young professionals with intensive, mentored experiences in domestic foundations in order to educate Stanford graduates about the role of philanthropy in society and encourage them to enter the field.

César was a student in HUMRTS 108 / SPANLANG 108 (Advanced Spanish Service-Learning: Migration, Asylum, and Human Rights at the Border), where students have the opportunity to apply their advanced Spanish language skills and knowledge from the class as volunteers with immigrant rights advocacy organizations. He also participated in the Center’s Human Rights Careers Intensive, a six-session workshop on charting career paths in the field.

César graduated in 2020 with a degree in Engineering Physics, and he is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Stanford in Mechanical Engineering. Within engineering, César is focused on human-centered design. Outside of engineering, César connects Stanford students who are passionate about immigration justice to detention abolition organizations.
